5 Winter Getaways In California

There are so many fun activities to do when you live in California. Especially when there are so many great museum options at the ready. Whether you’re looking for a fun afternoon visiting a new thrift shop or enjoying one of the amazing lakes, you are bound to find something for everyone. But with winter in full force, one of our favorite things is weekend getaways to one of our favorite spots.

1) Mammoth Lakes

Located in California’s Sierra Mountains, Mammoth Lakes is the perfect spot for those looking for a bit of winter wonderland. Spend the weekend skiing or snowboarding on Mammoth Mountain, the state’s highest chairlift-serviced peak. Or take the day to go cross-country skiing in the wilderness area. With one of the longest snowy seasons, you are sure to have a great time enjoying those days of adventuring.

2) Death Valley National Park

This below-sea-level basin is the land of extremes. Death Valley National Park’s summer heat makes visiting during the summer months a bit harsh. This is why picking a winter getaway to see the frosted towering peaks with winter snow a perfect trip. Spend some time after dark to see the beautiful night sky. Or stop in at Zabriskie Point to see some of the stunning vistas overlooking badlands and salt flats.

3) Mendocino

Mendocino is a magical playground, perfect for a weekend getaway. Especially during the winter months when you need to get out of the house. Visit the ancient redwoods. Or taste the wonders of the distilleries, wineries, and breweries. And of course, you don’t want to miss out on spending a bit of time in the hot springs to wash away all your troubles.

4) Yosemite National Park

Located in the High Sierra, Yosemite National Park is a great place to explore some of the greatest beauty of the state. The park is best known for its waterfalls. But that’s hardly all there is to offer when you visit. There are deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, and so much more. Before you head out, be sure to check for road condition updates and reservation availability.

5) Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is the perfect skiing weekend getaway. Located on the California-Nevada border, the lake offers stunning views. With several resorts to choose from, you are certain to have a stunning adventure. Even if you aren’t up for only skiing, there is still something for you to do. Check out the Heavenly Village Outdoor Ice Skating Rink. Or spend the day at the spa.
